Interurban Transit Authority carries 1.5 Millionth Passenger

Phyllis Yff, Executive Director, Interurban Transit Authority

In Saugatuck, Michigan on July 5th at 12:13pm, the Interurban carried our 1.5 millionth passenger.

Jim Scott, a regular rider, called from home to go to the River Market Deli in Saugatuck and after investigating our passenger's logs it was determined he gets the special award. Patti DeJonge, who was on her 2nd solo shift was the driver who picked Jim Scott up. On August 6th, we awarded Jim with a special 1.5 mil rider pass good for 15 rides and we all got our photo in the newspaper.

The Interurban started in 1980 with two busses and now has 6 busses and one trolley. We serve the Saugatuck/Douglas community of about 5,100 residents and carry around 65,000 passengers per year. We look forward to next spring when we have our 35th birthday.
