The Michigan Public Transportation Annual Conference, hosted by the Michigan Public Transit Association, is fast approaching on August 22-24 at the Crystal Mountain Resort in Thompsonville, MI. Public transportation officials from throughout Michigan, along with representatives from MDOT, the FTA, and transit-affiliated vendors will convene from throughout the state and around the country to discuss issues important to the operation of Michigan's transit network, attend educational meetings and view the latest products during one of the midwest's largest state transit vendor exhibits. As has become the pattern in recent years, multiple local transit millage proposals, mostly renewals, passed with overwhelming support across all parts of Michigan yesterday, with no defeats reported. Perhaps the most significant passage was a new substantial millage increase in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti service area of the Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority:ANN ARBOR, MI – The voters of Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti and Ypsilanti Township approved TheRide’s millage request to expand and improve transit service with the majority vote of 61%. Though approved now, the new 2.38 mil property tax and services will not go into effect until 2024. TheRide’s millage helps increase equity within the community and provide more access to jobs, education, shopping and healthcare. “We’re thrilled that the millage passed and we thank the citizens of Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti and Ypsilanti Township for their support and understanding of the value of public transit in our community. We now begin the work to set plans in place for 2024,” Matt Carpenter, CEO of TheRide said. “Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to the voters of Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti and Ypsilanti Township who supported our vision for the future of public transit in Washtenaw County,” Eric Mahler, TheRide Board of Directors Chair said. “TheRide will work tirelessly to execute our Long Range Plan to bring the services this region needs to continue be one of the most vital and livable counties in Michigan.” TheRide’s plan for the next millage includes:

STARS lowering rates for bus fare on Sept. 1SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) - The Saginaw Transit Authority Regional Services announced it will be lowering bus fare prices on Sept. 1.Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the prices were $1.50 for the general public and $.75 for disabled residents and seniors. STARS announced on Sept. 1, the general public price will be $1 and $.50 for seniors and disabled residents.LIFT paratransit rides will decrease from $2.75 to $2.
