ANN ARBOR, MI — The Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority (TheRide) announced today that a $7 million funding request was approved for the construction of the estimated $18-20 million plan to build a new, larger and improved Ypsilanti Transit Center. The funding request was requested and supported by Congresswoman Dingell. "We thank Congresswoman Dingell for her support and leadership in helping us gain this crucial funding for the construction of the expanded Ypsilanti Transit Center,” Matt Carpenter, CEO of TheRide said. “This important infrastructure investment will be a huge benefit to our community including public transportation passengers and employers in Ypsilanti and beyond,” said TheRide CEO Matt Carpenter. The Planning and design of the Ypsilanti Transit Center expansion is scheduled to begin in 2023 and go through 2025. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2026 and last at least one year. The federal funding was secured by Congresswoman Dingell as part of the FY2023 omnibus appropriations package. The funding will be used towards the construction of the new transit center. TheRide had previously received $300,000 in federal funds for the planning stages of this project, secured by U.S. Senator Gary Peters.

ANN ARBOR, MI – The Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority (TheRide) has announced that a research report on Zero Emission Buses done by consultants, Stantec, outlines and compares possible Zero Emission Bus options. Two public meetings are being held to share information about zero emission buses in November. The report focuses on Battery Electric buses and Hydrogen Fuel Cell-Electric buses by outlining the benefits of each, the cost and potential timelines. While the report makes no recommendations, it outlines several potential scenarios that allows for a certain number of vehicles to be transitioned to Zero Emission each year, culminating with a full Zero Emission fleet around the year 2040. “TheRide is dedicated to doing our part in our communities’ sustainability goals. Our study on Zero Emission Buses is our first step to determine the future of our bus inventory,” Matthew Carpenter, CEO of TheRide said. “We look forward to presenting our findings to the public and to listen to their preferred priorities of TheRide.” The public is invited to attend an in-person or virtual meeting.
